ARLIS/NA Management Services Request For Information (RFI)

Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) is requesting information
regarding association management services.

ARLIS/NA was founded in 1972 by a group of art librarians to meet the need
among art librarians and visual resources curators for better communication
and cooperation, and to provide a forum for ideas, projects, and programs.
The mission is "to foster excellence in art librarianship and visual
resources curatorship for the advancement of the visual arts." Today,
ARLIS/NA is a growing dynamic organization promoting the interests of
nearly 1,500 members. The membership includes architecture and art
librarians, visual resources professionals, artists, curators, educators,
publishers, and others interested in visual arts information. To serve
this diverse constituency, the Society provides a wide range of programs
and services within an organizational structure that promotes participation
at all levels.

Governing ARLIS/NA is an elected Executive Board which makes use of
committees, task forces, and other working groups to carry out the
Society's mission. The activities of the Society are guided by the
Strategic Plan. The Society has nineteen chapters throughout North America
which are organized into five regions: Canada, Midwest, Northeast, South,
and West. Grassroots initiatives are encouraged and supported. The Society
is officially affiliated with a variety of academic and international
associations including the International Federation of Art Library
Associations (IFLA), Visual Resources Association (VRA), and the College
Art Association (CAA) .

ARLIS/NA offers its members an extensive publication program including a
newsletter, "ARLIS/NA Update", a journal, "Art Documentation", and an
"Occasional Papers" series, an annual "Handbook and List of Members," and
the ARLIS/NA Web Site . The Society maintains several administrative
listservs for management purposes and ARLIS-L, our open electronic
discussion list.

The annual conference is one of the most important events in the Society's
calendar. It offers unique opportunities for members to network with
colleagues from all over the world. The conference exposes members to new
contacts, resources, technologies, challenging programming and is located
in cities rich in artistic and historic interest. The conference is the
major fundraising event for the Society. The annual conference will be
held in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1999 and in Pittsburgh, PA in 2000.

The Society employs a management service provider to assist the Executive
Board with the efficient management of the Society. The Board has
developed "Management Services and Standards Guidelines" which articulate
our expectations and needs from such a provider.

To assist you in preparing a response to this request for information,
several documents are available on the ARLIS/NA Web Site at:
