Hello Jill,

I am the architecture branch librarian at Auburn University in
Alabama, and I have been developing long term goals for my personal
research. These goals involve digital images and the future of
library instruction.

We have an image database up in the architecure library that replaces
the traditional slide light case, and that is prepared for students
to use before tests. It has grown in popularity so much that I am
requesting additonal staff to maintain it.

I am also going to Ireland this
summer, taking photographs of architectural details for 3 different
projects, and mounting instruction sites in the fall using these
images. These web sites will
include images, captions, bibliographies and other library and
on-line resources. The sites will be supported by posters and displays to encour
interest. I have asked for release time to develop these projects,
as well as materials support. I have not received an answer from the
research committee yet. I can ask for this as a part of my tenure
track position requirement to do research and creative projects, a
loophole for fun research and time consuming projects.

I am hoping to develop a series of these, and to encourage professors
to do the same with their research. The library server can host
things for a while, and we have a new electronic reserve software we
are testing this summer that could support these projects. Server
space becomes an issue fast in these cases.

Several of us here are developing a proposal for the ACRL conference
in April, where we present similar projects and discuss the future of
instruction screens and their possibilities. I am glad to hear there
are others out there pursuing this topic.
