----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Dear ARLIS/NY members: Maria Oldahl, Pierpont Morgan Library, has organized a special visit to the studio of Marco Grassi, a NYC conservator. Please read on; space is limited, so respond to Maria, a.s.a.p. Carol Rusk, Chair ARLIS/NY *************************************************************************** You are invited to pay a visit to the studio of Marco Grassi, a private art conservator and restorer in New York City. Mr. Grassi was born in Florence, Italy, graduated from Princeton University, and has been in the art conservation field for more than 30 years. Besides his work in New York, Mr. Grassi is also a visiting conservator for the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection now located in Madrid, Spain. He is the recipient of the Italian Legion of Merit award, and is a Fellow of the Pierpont Morgan Library and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is a wonderful opportunity to see a state-of-the-art conservation studio, which also houses a 20,000-volume art reference library, together with many active periodical subscriptions. Besides getting a glimpse of the daily work going on there, it may be revealing for us how an art reference library is utilized for this kind of work. Date and time: Wednesday, May 27, 1998, 5 p.m. The visit will last approximately an hour. Attendance is limited to the first 20 ARLIS/NY members who respond to this invitation. Mr. Grassi's studio is located in Soho (599 Broadway corner of Houston, 10th floor). Please gather at the SW corner of Broadway and Houston a couple of minutes before 5. RSVP by May 25, 1998 to Maria Oldal, 212-685-0008 ext. 339, or [log in to unmask]
