The Mayer Library of the Dallas Museum of Art is seeking a Reference
Librarian for a busy 30,000 volume art library in downtown Dallas' Arts
District.  Mayer Library staff consists
of 3 full-time professionals (Head of Libraries, Reference Librarian,
Library Cataloger), assisted by many part-time volunteers.  Applicant must
be able to work as part of a team in this friendly, but often fast-paced
environment.  Adaptability and flexibility are a must.

Position: Reference Librarian                   Reports to: Head of Libraries
Department: Mayer Library                 Date: Available Immediately

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Primary responsibility (approximately 80%-85% of workload): Provide
reference services to
   staff and the public, in-person, by phone, mail and e-mail.
2. Conduct periodic library orientation sessions for new staff, new
docents, and area teachers
   and students.
3. Oversee library stack maintenance.
4. Manage library exchange program. (Process museum publications received
from other libraries,
   and organize distribution of DMA publications to other libraries.)
5. Responsible for some library volunteer training and project supervision.
6. Research and write bibliographies for upcoming exhibitions (approx. 4
times a year).

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
--Maintain library circulation files.
--Keep records of reference, circulation and shelving statistics.
--Assist Manager of Libraries with pre-order searching for new
acquisitions.
--Create small displays for the library's exhibit case (approx. 4-5 times a
year).
--Write user guides for library's electronic resources.
--Other special projects and miscellaneous duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
* BA in Art History or related field.
* Library reference experience or extensive experience interacting with the
public.
* Reading knowledge of at least one major European language, preferably
French or German.
* Experience with computers and database searching.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Able to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule during the academic
semester with evening
  hours on Thursdays until 7:00 p.m.
