THE PIERPONT MORGAN LIBRARY, NEW YORK--CATALOGING POSITION AVAILABLE

An experienced cataloger is sought for a two-year, grant-funded position for=
 the
library's retrospective conversion project. The project is part of =
preparations
for a library-wide network and an integrated library system which will =
contain
information on all collection items, including ancient Near Eastern seals,
drawings and prints, rare books, and manuscripts, as well as the Library's
reference materials. The cataloger will convert existing descriptions of
manuscripts (chiefly medieval and Renaissance, but also including some =
Coptic,
Ethiopian, and Islamic) into RLIN records, and contribute NACO authority =
records
for names of artists, donors, patrons, former owners, bookbinders, =
scriptoria,
etc. that arise during the cataloging process. The cataloger will work =
closely
with a curatorial assistant who is responsible for checking and updating the
descriptions and for doing preliminary research on selected names to be =
entered
in LCNAF.

   Required: ALA-accredited MLS and three years professional cataloging
experience in an online environment, Western European languages. Preferred:
prior RLIN experience, familiarity with NACO procedures, humanities =
background,
and experience with special collections.
