DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Art Librarian has overall responsibility for planning, developing, managing, and evaluating the operations, services, and resources of the Art Library. She or he provides high quality reference service; develops and participates in programs of library orientation and instruction; coordinates the systematic and balanced growth of the library's collections; and contributes to the overall management of the library system. QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: ALA-accredited MLS; masters in art history or equivalent; broad knowledge of art literature and scholarship; understanding of library needs and resources relevant to art instruction and research; previous experience in an academic, research, art, or museum library; demonstrated commitment to serving the user; leadership and management skills; ability to communicate effectively; positive record of working well both independently and with others; evidence of initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness; commitment to professional development. Desired qualifications: Knowledge of German, at least one year of professional experience in a fine arts library, experience with electronic resources. ENVIRONMENT: The Clarence Ward Art Library has a collection of 69,000 volumes and is located near Art Department offices and classrooms, exhibition space, and the Allen Memorial Art Museum. It is a major branch of one of the nation's outstanding liberal arts college libraries. The campus is located in the heart of a small community (pop. 9,000), 35 miles southwest of Cleveland.
