----------------------------Original message---------------------------- This message is being cross-posted to ARLIS-L and VRA-L. My apologies for any duplication. I have been asked by a scholar who is examining the roles of squirrels in art. She is not looking for nature studies of squirrels, rather for examples of squirrels as an iconographic part of the work. Examples can be seen in the work of Lorenzo Lotto's "Portrait of a Married Couple" (Hermitage) and "Virgin & Child with Ss. John the Baptist and Catherine of Alexandria" (Private Collection, Bergamo) , Cranach's "Cardinal Albrecht" from the Ringling Museum, or in the Gothic Madonna from Normandy in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She would be grateful for additional examples. Please respond directly to: Ellen G.
