Adam and Sophie Gimbel Design Library
Parsons School of Design

Responsibilities

Parsons School of Design, a division of the New School University,
seeks applicants for the position of Librarian at the Adam and Sophie
Gimbel Design Library.  This position provides reference service and
orientation to the student body and faculty, bibliographic instruction in
specific subject areas of art and design, compilation of bibliographies,
and assistance to patrons in the use of collections of the Library.  The
librarian assists the Director in the general operation of the Library,
participates in collection development, and is responsible for supervision
of on-site technical services. Other duties may include: liaison to Bobst
Library of New York University and other members of the Research
Library Association of South Manhattan, maintenance of the OPAC and
related internal records, explanation of policies and procedures, training
of staff, and supervision of ILL.

Requirements

Required qualifications include: An M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited
program; a sound background in art and/or design; demonstrated
competence in reference in an academic or specialized library, on-line
searching, and bibliographic instruction; knowledge of a wide range of
traditional, electronic and automated resources; excellent written and
oral communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working
relationships with colleagues and students in a culturally diverse
academic community; ability to prioritize tasks; familiarity with acquisitions
procedures preferred.

Benefits
