About the 13th Annual MARY ELLEN LOPRESTI Publication Award Competition The Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) is the largest international professional organization devoted to art librarianship. The Southeast Chapter of ARLIS/NA established the LoPresti Publication Award Competition in 1985 to recognize and encourage excellence in art publications issued in the southeastern United States. The publication awards are named for Mary Ellen LoPresti, who was the Design Librarian at the Harrye B. Lyons Design Library, North Carolina State University, until her death in 1985. Art and architecture books, exhibition catalogues and serials are eligible for consideration if published in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, or the Virgin Islands and are judged on three criteria: format, significance of content, and scholarly apparatus. These nine award winners were chosen from over 75 qualified entries of publications published during the 1996 calendar year. The winning publications were first announced at the ARLIS/Southeast annual meeting in New Orleans this past Fall, and have been placed in the arts collection of the Duke University East Campus Library. The ARLIS/Southeastern Chapter is grateful to all applicants who donated their submissions.
