----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Position Announcement: Head Librarian, Memphis College of Art Position: As the head of a small, specialized art library (approximately 16,000 volumes), the Head Librarian is responsible for developing and overseeing the policies and procedures for library operation and services. The Librarian is a faculty member, participating on committees and attending faculty meetings. Reporting to the Academic Dean and working in a collegiate setting, the Librarian is expected to work effectively with all constituencies of the college, inlcuding faculty, students, and staff. Duties include: Recruit, train, and supervise 12-15 student workers; coordinate with the activities and budget of the slide curator; evaluate and develop all areas of the collection, including serials and electronic resources; coordinate reference services and bibliographic instruction; plan, budget, and monitor expenditures; oversee audiovisual equipment and library computers; maintain acquisition records, card catalog and shelflist, and circulation database; represent the library in consortia and local organizations; handle ILL requests. Position to begin on or before March 23, 1998. Required qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS; knowledge of library technologies; excellent written and oral communication skills; good sense of humor. Desired qualifications: BA or BFA in art-related area; supervisory experience; participation in professional organizations; experience in a college setting.
