The Dianne & Michael Special Collections
                           and Rare Book Library

                                 presents:

WENDELL MINOR: ART FOR THE WRITTEN WORD
                              An Exhibition
                        January 16-Febrary 9, 1998

The exhibit features 23 mounted book jackets, 12 books
with jackets, 3 original acrylic paintings, and
         4 watercolor paintings.

Minor is a graduate of the Ringling School of Art and
has won international recognition as a creator of cover
art for contemporary novels and biographies and as an
illustrator of children's books. His paintings have
enhanced over 2,000 works, including the bestsellers TRUMAN
(David McCullough), THE PRINCE OF TIDES (Pat Conroy), FRIED
GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE (Fannie Flagg),
ALASKA (James Michener), and ANYTHING FOR BILLY (Larry
         McMurtry).

In the book WENDELL MINOR: ART FOR THE WRITTEN WORD, a
25-year retrospective published by Harcourt Brace in 1995,
Minor writes, "I believe strongly in the picture as
narrative: an image frozen in time that sets the stage for
the action that follows; a picture that invites the viewer
into it and offers up a sense of mystery. A good picture,
like a good story, is timeless."

The exhibit opening and gallery talk with Mr. Minor will
take place on January 16, 1998 from 5-6:30 pm in the
         Bienes Center.

A complimentary 2-page exhibition checklist is available
         upon request.
