THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, ART COLLECTIONS, AND BOTANICAL GARDENS

CATALOG LIBRARIAN
4/5 time with Benefits

POSITION:   Working under the supervision of the Head of the Art Reference
Library, the Catalog Librarian prepares catalog records in accordance with =
both
national standards and local and network policies appropriate to the =
materials.
This includes classification and content designation according to the MARC
format, and the performance of authority work on names, series, and =
subjects.
It also includes searching, inputting, and editing of records, =
making/labeling
of materials, and participation in catalog maintenance projects.

Other functions include: Acts as assistant to the Head, Art Reference =
Library in
processing some book orders, answering some reference questions, helping
readers, identifying materials in need of conservation treatment, and the
supervision of volunteers.  In the absence of the Head, Art Reference =
Library,
helps keep the library open.  Assists in creating and documenting =
departmental
policies and procedures.  Attends division and catalogers' meetings.  =
Performs
special cataloging project as necessary.  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must be familiar with current national standards, such as
AACRr, LC subject headings, and MARC format.  These skills would likely be
obtained through completion of an ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent
training and experience.  Working knowledge of a bibliographic utility and a
local automated system preferred )preferably RLIN and Innopac, =
respectively).
Subject expertise in art history signified likely by an undergraduate major =
or
minor in art history.  Knowledge of American and British art preferred.  =
Must
have working knowledge of at least one modern European language, preferably
French, German, or Italian.  Must be tactful and courteous=3B and efficient =
in
managing time.  Cataloging experience in an academic or research library
preferred.  Must be able to climb stairs.

SALARY: Minimum of salary range for 4/5 time, =2420,925 annual rate

THE HUNTINGTON, located about 15 miles north-east of downtown Los Angeles, =

created in 1919 as an independent private library for advanced scholarly
research  in English and American history and literature, combined with =
public
art galleries and botanical gardens.  The Huntington exhibits collections of
British, Renaissance, and American art, rare books and manuscripts, and 150
acres of specialized botanical gardens.  It is consulted annually by some =
1800
scholars and visited by 500,000 members of the general public, and employs
approximately 300 with an annual operating budget of over =2413 million.
