TITLE: Head of Technical Services, Frances Loeb Library, Graduate School of Design, Harvard University GRADE/JOB FAMILY: 58/Library SALARY RANGE: $43,700-$72,100 depending on experience REPORTS TO: Librarian of the Frances Loeb Library RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees Technical Services Department. Manages staff who process materials in a broad range of languages. Sets standards for quality of monographs, serials, and AV cataloging acquisitions records. Contributes to book selection activities. Establishes and implements departmental goals and policies. Catalogs monographs, serials and serial title changes, following CONSER (Cooperative Online Serials Program) guidelines, and standards. Provides limited reference desk coverage. Provides budget projections for cataloging collections and material needs. Prepares statistical reports. Plans and implements new systems, services to increase efficiency of operations. Represents the library on university committees and meetings. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited library degree (MLS) or its equivalent; background in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design or a closely related field; minimum of 5 years experience in a technical services environment and demonstrated competence in cataloging and technical services; solid working knowledge of AACR2, LC subject headings and classification systems; reading knowledge of at least one European language; proven managerial and organizational skills, with excellent written and oral communication ability; competency in an electronic environment; willingness to work collegially in a team environment; flexibility and versatility required in order to effectively contribute to an evolving work situation. TITLE: Collections Librarian, Frances Loeb Library, Graduate School of Design, Harvard University GRADE/JOB FAMILY: 57/Library SALARY RANGE: $38,800-$61,900, depending on experience REPORTS TO: Librarian of the Frances Loeb Library RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees collection development activities; coordinates selection activities of other librarians. With the Librarian and other library staff, performs collection analysis, develops and monitors collection development policy. Designs, implements and monitors approval plans. Negotiates vendor contracts and site licenses for electronic resources. Represents the library in relevant GSD and university library discussions. Maintains strong working relationship with faculty and students. As a reference team member, works 12-15 hours per week providing reference service; assists the Head of Public Services in bibliographic instruction programs. Works as part of the professional team to develop new services and programs.
