ANNOUNCING THE ARLIS/NA 1998 CONFERENCE TRAVEL AWARDS!

ARLIS/NA, the Art Libraries Society of North America, is pleased to
announce the following travel awards to encourage attendance and
participation in the 26th Annual ARLIS/NA Conference, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, March 5-12, 1998.   Please also visit our Travel Awards web
site (http://afalib.uflib.ufl.edu/arlis/awards/travel98.html) which
describes the awards in English, French and Spanish and also enables you
to apply for an award directly via the Web page.  Applications are due no
later than November 17, 1997 and winners will be notified December 17,
1997.

ANDREW CAHAN PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD ($500)

Eligibility:
Information professionals who are actively involved in the field of
photography through reference, research, or bibliographic work.

Purpose:
To encourage participation of information professionals in the field of
photography who might not otherwise be able to attend the annual
conference without financial assistance.

JIM AND ANNA EMMETT AWARD ($600)

Eligibility:
Information professionals who are physically challenged.

Purpose:
To encourage professional development and assist a handicapped library
professional to participate in the ARLIS/NA annual conference.

G.K. HALL CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE AWARD ($500)

Eligibility:
Current ARLIS/NA members in one of the following categories: Individual,
student, unemployed, or retired; who serve as committee members, group
moderators, and chapter officers.

Purpose:
To encourage organizational participation by assisting attendance at the
annual conference by ARLIS/NA committee members, chapter officers, and
moderators of divisions, sections, and round tables.

HOWARD & BEVERLY JOY KARNO AWARD ($1000)

Eligibility:
Art librarians residing in Latin America.

Purpose:
To encourage professional development of art librarians who reside in
Latin America through interaction with ARLIS/NA colleagues and conference
participation.

DAVID MIRVISH BOOKS / BOOKS ON ART ($500 CDN)

Eligibility:
Canadian art or architecture library professionals who need assistance to
travel and could benefit from participation in the annual ARLIS/NA
conference.

Purpose:
To encourage art librarianship in Canada and assist a Canadian library
professional to participate in the ARLIS/NA annual conference.

PUVILL LIBROS AWARD ($1000)

Eligibility:
European art information professionals who reside outside of North America.

Purpose:
To encourage professional development of European art librarians through
interaction with ARLIS/NA colleagues and conference participation.

RESEARCH LIBRARIES GROUP AWARD ($1000)

Eligibility:
Current ARLIS/NA members who have never attended an annual conference of
the Society.

Purpose:
To promote participation in ARLIS/NA by supporting conference travel for
an individual who has not attended an annual conference.


ARLIS/NA 1998 CONFERENCE TRAVEL AWARDS APPLICATION PROCEDURES

To apply for an award, submit:

(1)  A letter of application (one page maximum) stating the name of
award, where you learned of the award, your specific interest and
expectations of the annual conference, as well as your goals for
professional development.

(2)  A  resume (one page maximum) listing employment history, educational
background, and professional activities.  Please include your FAX number
and email address, as well as the names of two references, including
addresses, phone, and FAX numbers.

Deadline for submission of applications:

Postmarked by November 17, 1997.

Award winners will be notified by December 17, 1997.  Winners must
confirm in writing that they are able to meet the requirement of
conference attendance.  Award winners will be announced during the
Convocation ceremonies.  Each recipient will be expected to submit a
post-conference report to the Travel Awards Committee and to the award
sponsor.
