----------------------------Original message---------------------------- The ARLIS/NA Management Services Task Force met in Washington DC on Monday, June 23rd, to work on a "Services and Standards" document which will enhance the Society's working relationship with its management services provider. The three-tiered document will: first, describe the Society vis-a- vis association management services; second, articulate the activities and products required of a provider; and, third, define standards of performance. A draft of the first part is provided, below. The Task Force will elaborate notes and working drafts of the second and third parts for presentation and discussion with the Executive Board and the leadership of our current association management service provider, Olson Management Group, at the midyear Board meeting in Washington in early August. If you have questions or comments, please send them to any member of the Task Force: Jack Robertson. (804) 924-6601. [log in to unmask] Roger Lawson. (202) 842-6529. [log in to unmask] Mary Graham. Its mission is "To foster excellence in art librarianship and visual resources curatorship for the advancement of the visual arts." The Society's strategic plan, administrative structure, and electronic networking tools provide a dynamic and creative environment. Widespread voluntary participation by members in leadership, projects, planning, and priority setting strengthen the group as a professional collective. To guarantee a sound infrastructure for support of all membership activities, the Society's elected leadership budgets and negotiates contracts for association management services. The goal is value-based service (i.e., "money paid = value realized") providing human and technology resources for data processing, financial management, communication, and planning. Quality is recognized in service that is: accurate and thorough, responsive and timely, efficient and cost effective, authoritative and innovative. Four categories of service are contracted: 1.) Financial, 2.) Meeting & Conference Planning, 3.) Communication & Publications, 4.) Information Management. The four categories entail products and processes delineated in action items; standards or measures of performance are also provided. -- j.r. * * * * * * * * Jack Robertson ARLIS/NA Past President Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library University of Virginia (804) 924-6601 [log in to unmask]
