Librarian/Technical Services Needed
The Academy of Art College, located in San Francisco, is looking for a
Technical Services Librarian. The Academy of Art College is the largest,
privately owned commercial art college in the U.S.
The Library serves a student population of 5,000. 40% are international
students. The Library currently has a staff of 12 full time employees.
We subscribe to 300 periodicals and have a collection of about 20,000
volumes.
Responsibility for all the functions necessary for an efficient and
accessible library including but not limited to the following areas:
* Manage the online catalog (SYDNEY PLUS) and the 8 included modules:
Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation, MARC Record Interface, Queries,
Reports, Serials, System Management.
* Assist with Intranet development: including researching sources of
Web-based commercial databases or indexes and implementing a Web-based
online catalog
* Supervise Technical Services: cataloging new books, materials
preparation, ordering card catalog cards
* Participate with Reference: giving subject specific orientations,
tours, and workshops and working at the reference desk
* Work at Circulation Desk: including an understanding of policies,
procedures, fines, overdues
* Supervise Library Assistants and College Work Scholars
Qualifications
Required: MLS; experience in an educational or special library setting
with an integrated online system; cataloging experience including
knowledge and use of MARC format, Library of Congress classification
system, Library of Congress Subject Headings, AACR2 cataloging
standards, authority control practices, inventory control; general
working knowledge of IBM and Macintosh operating systems, related
hardware, peripherals and software.
Desired: Supervision experience; experience or education in an art or
design related field; knowledge and use of the World Wide Web;
experience giving library tours/orientations.
