MORGAN LIBRARY CATALOGING POSITION
July 1997

Search reopened to fill a full-time cataloging position for the
Reference Collection at the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York City.

The Reference Collection includes approximately 60,000 titles,
including monographs, periodicals, pamphlets, photographs, and
microforms, which are intended to support research on the rare
collections.

The position involves cataloging current and retrospective material
in a variety of formats and languages into RLIN using AACR2, LCSH,
local subject headings, and other standard vocabularies; classifying
material according to the Library's local classification system;
entering authority records in an in-house file and contributing
headings to the Library of Congress Name Authority File through
the ArtNACO project; and providing assistance to staff working with
the Reference Collection.

The position requires an MLS and three years of professional
experience as cataloger (RLIN or OCLC), reading knowledge of at
least two Western European languages, and a strong humanities
background.

The cataloger reports to the Head of the Reference Collection, and
oversees the cataloging activities of paraprofessional staff at
the Department.
