ORIGINAL SLIDE CATALOGER/PUBLIC SERVICES
Art and Architecture Library (AAL)

Library Assistant IV

Performs full original cataloging of slides in all subject areas.  Provides
original subject headings based on LCSH and Art and Architecture Thesaurus,
provides description and classification numbers based on the UCSD adaptation of
the Harvard University Fogg System Slide Cataloging Rules and in consultation
with major art reference sources.

Provides informational and reference service for patrons in the use of the AAL
print, electronic and slide collections. Directs the work of student assistants
in areas of responsibility and lead in major slide retrospective conversion
project.

REQUIREMENTS:
In-depth understanding of slide cataloging principles and practices.
Knowledge of general and specialized art historical reference sources, their
content and use. Skill in using art reference tools to assist patrons with
reference inquiries and to document images accurately. Knowledge and
understanding of art historical developments and terminology. At least two years
of successful reference and/or public service experience. Reading/translation
skill in one foreign language.

PREFERRED:
Demonstrated knowledge of Library of Congress Subject Headings, the Union List
of Artist Names, and the Art and Architecture Thesaurus preferred. In-depth
knowledge of AAL library procedures and policies and skill in communicating them
to student assistants and patrons clearly and appropriately preferred.
