Position Description: Slide Curator

LAKE FOREST COLLEGE seeks a qualified individual to take on the
duties of Slide Curator in the Art Department.  This is a one-
year, half-time appointment.  Salary competitive.

Duties include: Managing of departmental slide collection and
related equipment.  Photography of and purchase of new slides,
masking and mounting slides, producing labels and filing.
Commencing a computerized inventory of collection and reordering
the collection. Weeding and updating the collection. Supervision
of work-study staff to refile, enlarge  and catalogue the
collection. Development of course specific web sites. Maintain and
update departmental and gallery web sites. Introduce campus users
to the collection.

Qualifications: M.A. in Art History is preferred, experience in
slide librarianship required.  Experience in computer-based image-
delivery systems and software a must.

Lake Forest College is a national liberal arts college about 30
miles north of Chicago, Illinois serving approximately 1200
students.  The curriculum of the Art Department includes both art
history and studio art, with a full-time faculty of 3 and several
adjunct professors.  The department has been collecting slides for
some thirty years, without the benefit of a professional curator.
The collection numbers approximately 125,000 slides, 6 to 8
projectors, VCRs and monitors, miscellaneous photographing and
mounting equipment. The slide curator will report to the Chair of
the Art Department.

Terms of appointment: The position has been funded for one year
(so far) at half-time (approximately 20 hours a week for 9
months).  The appointment will begin in mid-August 1997 through
