Yes, that is/was the proposition, and one of my major concerns would be the dichotomy of our role in serving two primary user groups with very different needs. Another point would be the legal obligation of the local council to provide a (comprehensive) library service. Fortunately, even since I posted my original note, this unpleasant prospect has receeded somewhat, although I suspect it may rear its head again. Don't get me wrong - I have no objection to the public library! I just don't feel that these two very different services could co-habit and the situation be mutually beneficial.
