Substitute Art Librarian
(Instructor or Assistant Professor)
Queens College Art Library
September 1997 through May 1998


The successful candidate will work in the Art Library of the
Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library at Queens College/CUNY.

Major responsibilities include reference service to patrons
(students, faculty and staff, community); instruction in the
use of the Art Library's collections and services (on-line
catalog, automated and traditional resources); participation
in collection development; cataloging, processing and
maintenance of non-book materials (pamphlets, pictures,
slides); gifts; bindery preparation; assisting in curating
exhibitions and organizing related programs in the Queens
College Art Center; supervision of support staff, as assigned;
supervision of the Art Library in the absence of the Head Art
Librarian; assisting the Head Art Librarian, as required.
Includes some general reference service.

Qualifications sought include MLS from accredited library
school and strong background in art (MA or MFA preferred).
Relevant library experience, and computer and language skills
are a distinct advantage.

The Queens College Art Library serves a dynamic multicultural
student population.  It supports the undergraduate and master-
level programs in studio art and art history, and serves users
from many other disciplines and programs (e.g., drama, theater
and dance; education; history; home economics; urban studies;
interdisciplinary and special studies; Graduate School of
Library and Information Studies).  Its specialized collections
include approximately 65,000 books, 200 journal subscriptions,
43,000 pamphlets and exhibition catalogs, 53,000
reproductions, 15,000 slides.

In 1996/97, Queens College enrolled approximately 16,000
students.  The Art Department had 31 faculty (full- and part-
time) and over 2,000 enrollment.

Salary starts at $27,454/year Instructor, $29,931/year
Assistant Professor.  Benefits.  Some evening and possibly
