The successful applicant will propose a publication and exhibition project related to the history and theory of graphic design. A preliminary letter is due May 15th. Acceptance is based on the merits of the proposed project and the applicant's resume and/or portfolio. Application The Lubalin Study Center seeks original proposals for installations and/or exhibitions with publications related to the history and theory of graphic desig. A preliminary should include a brief description of the project and related publication. The applicant will work in consultation with the assistant director of the Study Center who will provide research, design and editorial advice as deemed necessary. The dean of the School of Art will oversee the project. The final scope of the project is contingent on efforts at fundraising (see budget below). Background on the Study Center The Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography at the Cooper Union is recognized as a leading facility in the national and international design communities for the examination and analysis of design theory, criticism and history. Its collections, public exhibitions, and publications serve as important educational resources in the design arts. The Lubalin Study Center is also the founder of the National Graphic Design Archive Image Database, an on-line service devoted to the collection, preservation and dissemination of graphic design.
