----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Occidental College is seeking a full-time slide and music curator/librarian to begin as soon as possible after July 1, 1997. The curator or librarian is responsible for the continued development and management of the collections of slides in the Department of Art History and Visual Arts and musical media (recordings, scores, and the like) in the Music Library; for the supervision of student workers in both departments; and for maintaining and expanding the computerized database of slides and the electronic catalogue of music materials. Anticipated projects include the conversion of images to digital archival formats and provision for electronic access within the campus. In addition we expect the curator/librarian, in collaboration with faculty, the library, and the computer center to play an active role in the development, acquisition, and management of electronic and other media campus-wide. A graduate degree or equivalent in art history, music history, other arts-related field, or MLS from an ALA accredited program, is required, as is solid grounding in the history of art and/or music. Working familiarity with computer database systems for visual resources and cataloguing conventions for music materials, as well as experience with image digitization, slide and music library and archive curatorship, preparation of slides and music materials for classroom use, and training of student employees, are preferred. Reading knowledge of at least one of the following foreign languages is desired: Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Japanese.
