I post this conference proposal to determine if others would be
interested in attending such a session or if it may be incorporated as
part of another proposal.

Art Librarians & Artist Interviews

In order to document transitory art forms such as performance art,
oral interviews can provide an important supplement to audio-visual
recordings and photography. No single method is able to capture
the ephemeral nature of these arts, but interviews are an important
way to document an artist's perspective. This panel would consider
how the art library can productively incorporate and encourage
interviews as an important record of transitory art forms. Questions
which might be raised include; How should interviews be effectively
archived? What role might the librarian play in conducting the
interviews? What methods can be used in acquring interviews? And, how
should interviews be catalogued? These are just some of the questions
this panel will address.
