ARLIS and VRA Northern California Chapters would like to announce a joint
Spring Meeting, Friday, May 9, 1997 at Stanford University, Cummings Art
Building, Main floor lobby 9:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m.

Speakers will include:

Leslie Johnston, Information Resource Specialist, Nicole Squires,
Technical Coordinator for Visual Resources, and Sybil Hudson, Slide
Curator, who will demonstrate their application of the EmbARK database
system for the Art Department Slide Collection and the Stanford Art
Museum.

Dr. Paul Goldstein, Professor of Law, Stanford University, specializing in
copyright law, will entertain questions on the subject.  He has written a
book entitled _Copyright's Highway: The Law & Lore of Copyright from
Gutenberg to the Celestial Jukebox_ (1994).

Patti McClung, Private consultant, Palo Alto, and Don McClelland, Director
of Information Systems, UCLA Fowler Museum and Project Coordinator for the
Museum Educational Site License project (MESL).  McClung will give an
overview of the MESL project and McClelland will discuss the museum side,
including content selection, development of technical standards,
preparation of text records and images, and intellectual property issues.
McClelland will also describe the museum's digital imaging project and how
the MESL project affects it.
