----------------------------Original message---------------------------- THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO LIBRARY (Revised Ad) Bibliographer for Art The University of Chicago Library seeks applicants for the position of Bibliographer for Art. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the collections (about 75,000 volumes) in the subject area of art and architecture. Selects material in all relevant media related to Western art and architectural history and criticism, post-classical to contemporary. Also selects some materials in non-vernacular languages for East Asian archaeology and art and architectural history. Responsible for providing specialist bibliographic and reference assistance for faculty and graduate students in the Department of Art History and the Committee on the Visual Arts as well as undergraduates in the College. Reference duties will also include ten hours per week in the Reference and Information Services Department of Regenstein Library. Participates in the development of electronic multi-media resources and services in the Library and on campus, including providing specialist support in visual resource development and delivery. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Collection Development and Public Services for Humanities and Social Sciences. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Advanced degree in art history or closely-related subject field, and library degree from accredited library school. Experience: Prior collection development experience highly desirable; reference experience and knowledge of electronic information systems, including database searching, microcomputer applications, and Internet source development desirable. Skills: Candidates must be able to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff and possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Reading fluency in one or more Western languages is required.
