----------------------------Original message---------------------------- To all RISS members: In just a few weeks we'll be holding the RISS business meeting in San Antonio (Sunday, April 6, 11:30 - 1), and I'd like to encourage all of you to start thinking about program proposals for the 1998 Philadelphia conference. If possible, please send me your suggestions before leaving for San Antonio; I'd like to have a tentative list ready to work from at the meeting. The final drafts of the proposals will be due May 31 to the 1998 Conference Program Chairman. I'd also like to urge you to think about how RISS activities might fit in with the ARLIS/NA Strategic Plan. Please try to take a look at the plan (available on the ARLIS/NA website) and pay particular attention to #s 36, 37, 39, 47, and 52 in the Divisions/Sections/Round Tables Action List. There's been a small transfer of responsibilities in RISS this week. The 1996-97 moderator, Ophelia Roop, is no longer a member of ARLIS and does not plan to attend the San Antonio conference. I've been waiting in the wings as moderator-elect for the past year and will go ahead and take over as moderator a little earlier than usual. Anne Shankland, past moderator, has generously offered to step in as the RISS meeting recorder. Is anyone interested in serving as the 1997-98 moderator-elect? Bearing in mind that the 1999 conference will be held in Vancouver, Roger Lawson suggested that it might be helpful to have a moderator-elect from the west coast (although volunteers or nominations from any geographical region would be welcome!). The appointment of a moderator-elect will be on the meeting's agenda. If you have any other ideas or suggestions for this year's RISS meeting, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and seeing all of you in San Antonio.
