CONTINUING EDUCATION SEMINAR

The University of Texas at Austin
Graduate School of Library and Information Science

is hosting the following seminar on Visual Resources Management, at the
Fine Arts Building at The University of Texas at Austin.  The speakers
for the seminar will be Nancy Schuller and Christine Sundt.  Ms. Schuller
is senior lecturer and curator of visual arts for the Visual Resources
Collection, Department of Art and Art History, at The University of
Texas at Austin.  Ms. Sundt is associate professor and curator of the
Visual Resources Collection at the University of Oregon, Architecture and
Allied Arts Library.


1997 WORKSHOP IN VISUAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: THE NEW BASICS
June 23-27, 1997

Purpose:
  The purpose is to inform the visual resources curator, librarian, or
  user, of some of the major topics involved in the development,
  management, and operation of visual resources collections.


Program:
  The workshop will include subjects basic to the management of visual
  resources collections, as well as emerging issues in the field.  Included
  will be both theoretical and practical information about aspects of
  this type of collection management, as well as discussions and
  demonstrations of new electronic methods and tools for accessing as
  well as managing and delivering images and descriptive records.  There
  will be discussions and demonstrations of Getty's microcomputer
  software for standard terminologies, for use in descriptive cataloging
  and information retrieval.  Digital imaging and its use will also be
  considered.  Special topics on classifying and cataloging both art and
  architecture images will be addressed.  The workshop consists of
  lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and demonstrations.

Housing and Fees:
  Registration fee is $495.00.  Dormitory housing is available at
  Jester Center on the UT campus.  Estimated per person cost for the week,
  including breakfast and dinner at the dormitory, is $222.45 single
  occupancy, $171.95 double occupancy.  Additional room nights are
  available.  Housing form will be sent when you register.
