----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Art College Librarian Dynamic individual sought as Librarian of the Maine College of Art, a growing college with BFA programs in 8 studio majors, with strong art history and liberal arts curricula. MECA has an undergraduate student body of 300, a faculty of 50, and also serves a number of adult and high school continuing studies students. The Library, a major resource for the visual arts in northern New England, contains 18,500 volumes and 100 journals; it is due to move into expanded space in the newly renovated central College building in downtown Portland. The Librarian reports to the Dean of the College. Responsibilities include: collection development, materials processing (cataloging), user orientation, budgeting, long-range planning, and supervision of 2 assistants, the Slide Curator, and (indirectly) 15 work-study students. Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS, art history background; relevant experience in visual arts librarianship, preferably in an academic setting; familiarity with evolving visual and information technologies; commitment to the teaching mission of the College; involvement in professional and scholarly organizations; willingness to grow with institution and work within arts community of Portland.
