I am not an art librarian -- my field is predominately health and business -- but I am now being given the task of organizing a slide collection for my organization. We are planning to scan our slides for storage on CD-rom, and index them using as-yet-unchosen database software. I have been using InMagic's DBTextworks for our text databases; I know that this product is supposed to also accomodate images, but I have as yet no experience with that aspect of it. My question is -- what other programs have folks been using successfully (or unsuccessfully -- what programs should I avoid?)? Our graphic artist purchased a copy of Cumulus, but from my reading of reviews it doesn't seem to support Boolean searching, which I definitely need. I'm tempted to stick with DBTextworks because it's what I know, but perhaps there are better products out there. This whole project is further complicated by the fact that our graphic artist uses a Macintosh, while the rest of the organization is on a WindowsNT/95 network. I'd appreciate any suggestions -- feel free to email me privately, and I apologize if I've asked a question that has already been discussed on the list ad nauseum. ************************************************************************ ************************** Eris Weaver, MLIS Marin Institute for the Prevention of Alcohol & Other Drug Problems 24 Belvedere Street, San Rafael, CA 94901 (415) 456-5692 FAX (415) 456-0491 [log in to unmask]
