----------------------------Original message----------------------------
This message is from Ann Douglas of the Metro Toronto Reference Library
regarding the dimensions of the Audubon elephant folio -- their library's
copy (which was acquired when published):

The dimensions of the books are:
     h 99.0 cm or 39 "
     w 67.0 cm or 26.4"
     t 5.2 cm 2"

the page sizes are:
     h 97.0 cm or 38"
     w 64.8 cm or 25 1/2"

When you get to the actual plate sizes, there are three
main sizes in each set of 5:
one large [plates with numbers ending in 1 or 6] which
are almost the full sheet size and there is no plate mark.
one medium size [ plate numbers ending in 2 or 7]
         65-66 cm x 53 or 25.5 - 26 " x 20-21"
three small plates [numbering 3,4,5 or 8,9,0]. The
plate size varies
         49.6 - 50 cm x 31 cm or 19 1/2 x 12" approx.

The plate sizes do vary slightly as this was before the
age of standardization, and Audubon and Havell were doing
the birds lifesize.

Ann

There are 87 sets of five making 435 plates in total plus
four title pages.
