ART LIBRARIES IN THE CYBER-AGE

ARLIS/UK and Ireland Annual Conference
University of Canterbury
Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th July 1997

The 1997 ARLIS/UK and Ireland Conference will be held at
the University of Kent at Canterbury, a pleasant rural campus
overlooking the City of Canterbury and its historic Cathedral.

The conference will address the latest issues in electronic library
provision including funding and digitisation initiatives, problems of
copyright and archiving, electronic publishing of primary and
secondary sources, access to the internet, navigational tools and
developing projects, netskills training and user perspectives.

Friday and Saturday morning sessions will provide opportunities for
hands-on workshops in the University's computer suites. Specific
subject-orientated demonstrations, including using ADAM links, will
be featured.

1997 is the 1500th anniversary of St Augustine's landing in Kent.
An afternoon of planned visits will provide an opportunity to
discover Canterbury's rich heritage including the Cathedral and its
library, St Augustine's Abbey and the University Library's Centre
for Cartoons and Caricature. From navigating the net, the conference
will navigate the narrow lanes of Kent with visits to the county's
historic villages, renowned for their houses, gardens and castles.

There will be an opportunity for conference delegates to book
an additional study tour of Paris art libraries. This is being
organised in conjunction with Nicole Picot, curator at the
Bibliotheque et archives des Musees nationaux at the Louvre.
The study tour will be from Sunday 6th July to Wednesday 9th July
by Eurostar from Ashford in Kent. Separate booking forms will be
supplied on request.
