----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Slide Curator/Architecture Library, The Chinese University of Hong Kong The Architecture Library of the Chinese University of Hong Kong is looking for a slide curator. The appointee will be primarily responsible for two tasks. The first is to complete the databasing of our new slide collection. (To date 30,000 slides have been databased with approximately 15,000 slides of pre-1900 buildings still to be added to the database.) The second task is to coordinate the expansion of the current slide collection. The major areas of expansion would be Asian and Hong Kong architecture and new contemporary architecture from around the world. The appointee will not be responsible for the daily activities of acquisitions, accessioning, circulation, filing and other operational tasks. These will be handled by a library assistant and several student helpers. Training and supervision of student helpers to assist the appointee in his/her tasks will be required. The Architecture Library is a three-year old branch library with 16,000 volumes of books and 250 periodical titles. The multi-media collection now consists of approximately 50,000 slides, 200 videos and 150 slide tape sets. The collection is mainly used by the 20 full-time and 5 part-time teaching faculty of the Architecture Department. Applicants should have a good university degree in architecture or related field. Broad knowledge of architecture, including its historical, social or environmental context is essential. Previous experience in a slide library, experience in using File Maker Pro 2.0 for Macintosh, and Chinese proficiency will be an advantage but not necessary. The position is available immediately but is only funded to June 30,1998. Appointment will be made on contract for one year in the first instance, and will be renewable up to June 30, 1998. (Extension of the contract beyond that time is dependent on securing of new funds.) Working Hours : 39 hours per week (excluding lunch time). The working hours will fall within the library's opening hours which is 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Friday and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays. Monthly Salary : HK$18,960 per month (approximately US$2,430 per month). Benefits : Out-patient medical allowance; annual leave and sick leave.
