Position:  Head Librarian, Albright Knox Art Gallery

The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York is seeking an innovative and
enthusiastic Head Librarian who will effectively lead the G. Robert Strauss
Jr. Memorial Library, Archives and Audio-Visual Resource Center.

Responsibilities:  Responsible for all aspects of management of Library,
Archives and Audio-Visual Resource Center.  Determine library policy related,
in particular, to collection development, collection maintenance,
preservation, reference and research, and cataloging as well as promotion of
the department.  Hire and supervise all personnel, including Assistant
Librarian-Archivist, Cataloger, and Library Assistant (FTE 2.0). Recruit and
supervise volunteers and interns.  Prepare annual budget, quarterly reports,
annual reports, long range plans and procedure manuals.  Investigate and
write grants.  Research and prepare exhibition histories and bibliographies
for exhibition catalogues published by museum.  Provide reference service
(including online searching of FirstSearch, EPIC, Internet, and WWW) to
museum staff and public.  Bibliographic instruction to museum staff, docents.
 Prepare exhibitions of library's holdings, in particular artists' books.

Qualifications/Experiences:  ALA-accredited Master's degree in library and/or
information science. B.A. in Art History, with preferable emphasis in the
modern period.  One to two years experience in the following:  Professional
art reference service in an academic, museum or public library setting.
 Archives management.  Familiarity with sources of current (inprint) and
out-of-print art library materials.  A-V Center experience, in particular
slide library experience.  Familiarity with research strategies in modern and
contemporary art.  Supervisory experience.  Research and verification skills.
 Working knowledge of major online information services:  OCLC, EPIC, and
FirstSearch.  Working knowledge of
Internet structure and access.  Public speaking and presentation skills.
 Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation practices.  Grant
writing skills.  Working knowledge of DOS, HTML and Windows applications.
Working knowledge of computer hardware and peripherals.  Working knowledge of
multimedia software.  Reading familiarity of major western European
languages.
