----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Dear Margaret, Here at the Vancouver Art Gallery (The Gallery staff is c.60 and the library is 37,000 vols) Gallery Staff members, both full time and part time, are allowed to borrow books from the library for use in the building. Needless to say the 'in the building' part does get abused from time to time. There has been a bit of a problem with staff members borrowing books for 'friends'. Volunteers, docents, and contract personnel are not allowed to borrow things from the library. We have created some small special groups of books that circulate to docents (these books have been purchased by the Education Department). I was previously the librarian at the Vancouver Aquarium, and they had quite an extensive Docent Library that was a circulating collection. The Librarian catalogued things and the docents took care of circulation procedures, overdues, etc. We are very relaxed about all of this and, because we are small and the circulation is fairly small, we have not had any big problems.
