CATALOG LIBRARIAN


The Art  Institute of Chicago's Ryerson Library seeks an experienced catalog
librarian to do original and copy cataloging of monographic materials in the
fields of art history and architecture.  Reporting to the head of Technical
Services, the successful candidate will create original catalog records and
edit RLIN-member copy; make series and name authority decisions; act as a
resource person for cataloging assistants; provide backup and assistance to
other catalog librarians as needed. and assist in staffing the Library's
reference desk, including occasional evening and weekend assignments.

Candidate must have an accredited MLS; experience cataloging at a
professional level; working knowledge of cataloging principles and
procedures including AACR2, LCSH, USMARC formats, and DDC; experience with
automated library systems; and the ability to work flexibly and creatively
in a changing environment. Experience with RLIN, Innopac, and the Macintosh
operating system; working knowledge of 2 or more Western European languages;
and familiarity with  reference tools in the fields of art history and
architecture is preferred.  Salary from $25,000 plus excellent benefits.
