Re Gentileschi: According to R. Ward Bissell, in Orazio Gentileschi and the
poetic tradition in Caravaggesque painting (Penn State U. Pr. 1981), p.62, "it
was beneath the high altar of Somerset Chapel that, according to Soprani,
Orazio Gentileschi was buried." He died February 7, 1639. Somerset House
belonged to Queen Henrietta Maria, and its altar was dismantled by the
Puritans; there is no record to confirm the painter's burial there. The
Soprani quoted is Raffaello Sopprani, author of Le vite de'pittori, scoltori et
architetti genovesi (Genoa, 1674).
