PRESS RELEASE

Nominations Sought for the 1997 Dartmouth Medal

The American Library Association's Reference and User
Services Association (RUSA)'s Dartmouth Medal Committee
is seeking nominations for this award honoring "achievement
in creating reference works outstanding in quality and significance."
The term "creating reference works" may include (but is  certainly not
limited to) "writing, compiling, editing or  publishing books" or
providing "information in other forms  for reference use" - such as
computerized databases.  Works  published or made available for the
first time in 1996 are eligible.

The award is a bronze medal designed by Rudolph Ruzicka and donated by
Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.  The medal will be presented at the
RASD Awards Ceremony during the 1997 American Library Association's
Annual Conference in San Francisco.

To nominate a reference work for the 1997 Dartmouth Medal, please
complete the short nomination form, available below or from the chair
of the committee.

Nominations not submitted on the nomination form must be sent
to the committee chair and include the following information:

Title
Author or Editor
Publisher
Name, address, phone number, etc of nominator
Brief statement supporting the nomination

The deadline is December 15, 1996

The Dartmouth Medal Committee will meet at the 1997 American
Library Association Midwinter Conference in Washington, D.C., to
select a winner.

1997 Dartmouth Medal Nomination Form
