Subject: Support of Revisions to draft treaties, WIPO

The ARLIS/NA, Art Libraries Society of North America, Public Policy
Committee is writing on behalf of ARLIS/NA to endorse DFC's proposed
revisions to certain draft international treaties as outlined in the
e-mail message of Monday, Oct. 21, 1996.

We wholeheartedly support DFC's ongoing position recommending that
"Congress should not let this international agenda determine the shape
of domestic international property legislation" which is still very much
in process. We agree that it is premature for the US to consider these
proposals prior to consideration and resolution of these issues in
significant domestic debate in the U.S. We also concur with DFC's
concern that ratification of many of these proposals would seriously
compromise Congress' ability to work towards a balanced solution to the
problem of copyright in the networked information environment.

Sincerely,
Katherine K. Poole
Public Policy Committee, Co-Chair
