----------------------------Original message---------------------------- I have been reading a very informative and succinct packet of information on Copyright entitled, "Copyright and the NII: Resources for the Library and Education Community", May 1996, edited by Patricia Brennan,published by Association of Research Libraries. It reprints many useful and well-written articles from their booklet, Copyright and the Scholarly Community. But it also makes available more recent articles. Of particular interest are the position papers of the Digital Future Coalition, to which ARLIS/NA is a signatory. So if you have ever wondered what your professional society`s position is on copyright and the NII, here is one place to look. You can also find these papers by going to the Public Policy Committee Web Page, looking for Digiital Future Coalition and their testimony and statements before Congress (Nov. 9, 1995) and May 7, 1996. Also of interest are the joint library statements before Congress (American Association of Laaw Libraries, American Library Association, Association of Research Libraries, Medical Library Association, Special Library Association), Feb. 8, 1996. There are two articles on CONFU. One by Mary Jackson of ARL, pp.32-33, One by Doug Bennett, Vice President Council on Learned Societies, pp.121-128. Altogether this booklet provides the most intelligible, accurate, and up-to-date summary and analysis from the point of view of libraries and educational institutions.
