Judy ############################################################## NINCH ANNOUNCEMENT ****************** CETH Workshop Series: Electronic Text Technology in the Humanities ******************************************** The Center for Electronic Texts in the Humanities (CETH) is organizing a series of three one-day workshops designed to introduce the basics of working with electronic texts in research and teaching in the humanities. Each workshop will be self-contained, but the series as a whole will provide a good overview of the essential tools, techniques and resources for faculty, graduate students and librarians. The CETH Workshop Series is designed to assist in the use and management of the rapidly expanding body of electronic resources available for humanities scholarship. Basic knowledge of word processing and familiarity with the Internet are assumed. Tuesday, October 29, 1996 Electronic Resources for the Humanities Introduction to creating and capturing electronic text; issues of standards and quality; electronic textbases and World-Wide Web resources. Friday, December 6, 1996 Introduction to text encoding Survey of text encoding practices. Synopsis of the Text Encoding Initiative's (TEI) implementation of the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML). Friday, January 31, 1997 Introduction to textual analysis Overview of text analysis tools and their applications for: stylistics, corpus linguistics, literary criticism, and historical research. Where: Pane Room, Alexander Library, 169 College Avenue, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. When: 9.30am - 4.00pm.
