Archivist Grade 9 ($30,658)
Temporary grant-funded position - Not to exceed 1 year (Appointment may be
extended for one year, depending upon grant-funded proposals)
Announcement Opening: October 18, 1996
Announcement Closing: November 15, 1996
Duty Location: Washington, DC
Open to all qualified candidates

Duties: Works as a professional archivist in a grant-funded temporary
appointment for the Archives of American Art. Applies professional
archival principles, concepts, techniques, and methodology to
processing, arranging, preserving, describing, and preparing for
microfilming one or more significant and complex collections of personal
papers, manuscripts, or archival records ranging in size from 40 to 100
linear feet. Work includes describing archival and manuscript
collections by writing archival finding aids and through on-line
cataloging according to the MARC-AMC (Machine Readable Cataloging for
Archives and Manuscript Control) format. Incumbent may also supervise
one archives technician in order to complete major processing projects.

Candidates must the meet the basic qualifications for the Archivist 1420
series and the following selective factors:

1. Professional knowledge of archival principles, concepts, methodology,
techniques, and procedures.
2. Knowledge of the history of American art,
social, cultural, and political history.

Candidates who meet the following quality ranking factors will be given
highest priority:

1. Experience in processing varied archival and manuscript collections,
including arrangement, preservation, and description.
2. Experience in writing descriptive narratives for archives and manuscript
collections.
3. Knowledge of the MARC-AMC format (Machine Readable Cataloging for
Archives and Manuscript Control)
