          Position:  Fine & Applied Arts/Photography Librarian/Archivist

          Wallace Library, Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking an
          innovative and enthusiastic reference librarian/archivist willing
          and able to work effectively in a dynamic team environment on the
          cutting edge of information technology.

          Responsibilities:  Provide reference services and research
          assistance to the RIT community, particularly in support of the RIT
          curriculum and student and faculty scholarship in the fine and
          applied arts and still and motion photography, through office
          consultation and regular hours (some nights & weekends) of service
          in the Archives and Special Collections.   Provide formal
          classroom, as well as, individual tutorial instruction in the use
          of the library collection and information retrieval systems
          including Internet, especially those related to the visual arts
          disciplines.  Act as liaison to the faculty and students and
          coordinate collection development and management in the afore-
          mentioned disciplines.  Manage RIT Archives and Wallace Library
          Special Collections and administer Wallace Library's galleries and
          art collection.  Initiate and contribute to professional and staff
          development activities to enhance job performance and maintain
          current awareness of traditional, as well as, complex and rapidly
          evolving technology-based information systems, tools and resources.
          Supervise 2-3 student workers in the Archives.

          Qualifications/Experiences:  ALA accredited Masters degree in
          library and/or information science.  Degree in one of the related
          disciplines or 1-2 years experience as a subject librarian for one
          of these disciplines.  One to two years experience in the
          following:  Selecting library materials to met the needs of a
          specific group of users and explicit collection development goals.
          Familiarity with sources of current(in-print) and out-of-print art
          and photography library materials.  Professional art and/or
          photography reference service in an academic, museum, or public
          library setting.  Development and presentation of formal
          instruction on art and/or photography research methodology.
          Archival management and installation of displays or exhibits and
          familiarity with standard museum methods (basic preservation,
          proper storage, inventory control of works of art).  Working
          knowledge of major online information services, scanning and
          imaging systems, multimedia software, Mac, DOS, HTML, Windows
          applications and Internet structure and access.  Ability to assess
          and integrate appropriate complex and rapidly evolving information
          technologies into the collection and instruction program.
          Preferred:  Reading familiarity of major western European languages
          and basic sign language skills.


          Wallace Library (http://wally.rit.edu) is a technically advanced,
          high use facility serving approximately 13,000 students, utilizing
          a team approach to decision-making. RIT is a coeducational,
          privately endowed institution comprised of seven colleges dedicated
