The following is being forwarded from the National Initiative for a Networked Cultural Heritage (NINCH) members list, posted on 10-2-96. Judy --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- NINCH NEWSFLASH As the 104th Congress disbanded this week, there were three items of good news: 1. The Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Assistance Program will receive level funding at $21.5 million. This is especially good news after real threats to totally cut this vital funding program. 2. NEA and NEH will receive the same level of funding as they got this year, $99.5 million and $110 million, respectively. 3. The new Institute of Museum and Library Services (a combination of the Institute for Museum Services and the public library program, formerly at the Department of Education) was authorized and funded. The new IMLS is a sister agency to NEA and NEH within the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities, just as IMS was. Diane Frankel, the current director of IMS, will head the new IMLS.
