The Center for Creative Studies seeks an experienced librarian to direct the growth and operation of the College of Art and Design library. The collection consists of approximately 23,000 volumes, 75 periodicals and 59,000 slides. Responsibilities will include the supervision of acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation, library use and inter-library loans. The librarian supervises the slide librarian, library assistant and college work-study students. Knowledge of and experience with technology are especially important so that this aspect of the library's operation can be substantially improved. The ability to do space planning would also be a desirable strength. The successful candidate will have strong professional and management skills as well as the ability to work in a collegial way with faculty, students and administation. A Master of Library Science degree and at least five years of professional experience are required, and a background in Art or Art History is desirable. The Center for Creative Studies, located in Detroit's University Cultural Center, includes the College of Art and Design and the Institute of Music and Dance. It serves as an anchor for arts education regionally and a focal point nationally and internationally for excellence in the visual, design and performing arts. The College of Art and Design is one of the nation's leading private visual art and design schools Approximately 900 students are involved in 17 degree-granting programs in crafts, fine arts, graphic communication, industrial designand photography. The college is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
