                       POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Chief Librarian, Thomas J. Watson Library, The Metropolitan
Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art invites applications for the position of
Chief Librarian, Thomas J. Watson Library. The position, reporting to the
Director, will oversee the collection development, acquisitions,
technical services, preservation, systems and reader services functions of
the Library. The Chief Librarian will take a leadership role in the
continuing automation of technical services and in the integration of new
information technologies to public service functions.

Qualifications:  Minimum of ten years of library management experience
with demonstrated leadership skills, preferably in a museum
environment. In depth knowledge of automated library systems;
familarity with current trends of information technologies and
electronic resources in the humanities, as well as broad background in
conventional resources for the history of art; commitment to responsive
and innovative user services; ability to effectively communicate with
curators, educators, administration and librarians is essential. Masters
degree in library or information science required; MA in art history
preferred. Knowledge of at least one foreign language is required.
