Good! by all means take it.  Hopefully, it will include some theory along
with the "how to use these manuals" approach.  You should know that many, if
not most, art libraries catalog traditionally.  Use of these standard
resources is one of the basics of cataloging in a shared environment.  An
understanding of the basic theories will help you to decide how departing
from the "traditional" rules will effect your library's database (its
relations with vendors etc.), and facilitate (or not) use of your library's
materials.

The "Art and Architecture Thesaurus" is becoming more "traditional" but is a
specialized tool for the subject of art.  Art is not unique in this, other
subjects have these special thesauri.
