Dear Polly (and everyone),
Take the cataloging class! You never know where you're going to end
up. You could be in a one-person library where you need to know everything, or
the entry-level position in an institution where you'd love to work might be a
cataloging one. Besides, it's good and useful information every librarian finds
a need to draw on now and then (or more). If you can, do the independent study
too.
