The Association of Research Libraries/Office of Management Services
announces the following Management Skills Institute:

LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SKILLS INSTITUTE II: THE MANAGEMENT PROCESS
Philadelphia, PA
May 20-24, 1996

This training institute is a powerful learning experience during which you
can test new ideas and patterns of behavior while learning new fundamental
concepts such as those surrounding organizational change and opportunity,
team learning, and the creation of shared vision.

The 5-day program will use a simulated library workplace in the framework
of the learning organization model, to focus on the individual's ability to
have a positive influence on the overall performance of the organization.
Emphasis will be placed on developing and building proficiency in the
skills of observation, diagnosis, and planning so that you will become more
effective in solving organizational problems and in recognizing
organizational opportunities.

For two library directors' experiences in this Institute, refer to the ARL
Newsletter #185, April 1995, pp. 12-13, just published.

Cost: $695 per person for staff from ARL member libraries; $745 per person
for staff from non-member libraries, plus travel and accommodations
