----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Greetings Colleagues! A letter is going out this week to Division members who do not subscribe to ARLIS-L (what a job determining who those people are). 116 of us, I believe. I indicated to them the issues that the executive board has asked moderators to pursue this year, asked for volunteers to serve as officers, gave them a summary of San Antonio proposal ideas received and enclosed a questionnaire concerned with communication. The summary of proposals is: 1. Cooperative ventures/consortia 2. Libraries and distance learning 3. Pre-conference workshop on basic art library reference sources 4. Art Librarians as curators 5. Art histories and the art librarian as historiographer 6. Keeping academic standards in the digital universe 7. Why the book is still an important medium in addition to cd-rom, websites, etc. 8. Joint sponsorship with GLIRT of a panel on acces to information on lesbian and gay artists and art history Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of proposals which can come from any Division? The questionnaire concerned issues of electronic access and communication. I'd like the ARLIS-L members to answer the communication portion since the other asks about e-mail access, ARLIS-L, etc. It's very brief but would be helpful to the Board and succeeding Division moderators. Check all that apply. ___________ARLIS/NA should communicate all issues in the UPDATE ___________UPDATE should be issued more often ___________The Division should communicate issues through the UPDATE ___________If a Division member has e-mail he/she should be encouraged to subscribe to ARLIS-L to facilitate communication ___________The Division Moderator should communicate ___________a. by letter ___________b. by e-mail ___________Regional Chapters should get more involved in communication for ARLIS/NA Any comments about communication issues? I'd appreciate your timely response. For those of you attending the conference in Miami, we will need to discuss our commitment as revealed in the Strategic Plan update. You should have received a copy in the March issue of UPDATE. Should we finish with business early here's a couple of possible group discussion topics. ---art collection development issues (books, cd-roms, ephemera) ---bibliographic instruction (sharing handouts?) I look forward to the conference and to seeing those of you who are able to attend. Our business meeting is Sunday from 11-12:30. Thank you and all the best.
